It’s already about autumn here in the Southern hemisphere. And Spring is well on its way in the Northern hemisphere. That means the summer will soon return in the North, and we will be too. Although only briefly.
For the last two Borealis summers, we have been in our native Finland, enjoying the short but beautiful northern summer.
We have three reasons to do that; see our families and friends, enjoy the beautiful summertime of Finland – and work as bear guides in the north! 🤠 🐻
And that’s what we will do this upcoming Northern summer, too!
We’ll again work as bear guides at our friends’ bear photography hides in Kuusamo, Finland. 🇫🇮
This year 2023, we’ll be there from approximately mid-May until the end of July.
So, if you are in Finland during this time, be sure to come to Kuusamo and meet the brown bears and us! 🤠
You can see the wild brown bears from the safety of a small building in the middle of the wilderness and observe their doings, comings, and goings. And, of course, photograph the King of the Northern forests! 🐻
The video, in the beginning, is photos Piritta took from these same photography hides last summer in 2022.

This summertime is also a “break” from our normal, Overlanding lifestyle. And we naturally also want to spend some time with our families and friends. It’s only this time once a year when we get the chance to do that. So this time is precious.
And – we absolutely love the brown bears! 🐻 They are completely wild creatures, but as they are territorial animals, we see some same individuals yearly. And it’s like meeting your old friends after a “long time, no see”!
And, believe it or not, each and every one of them is a big personality! With their different looks, habits, ways of moving, etc.
Honey Badger the Defender will be stored in a safe place in South Africa while we’ll be in Finland. And either in late August or early September, we will again return to South Africa and continue our African 4x4 Overlanding adventure.
“The cycle of the eternal summer,” like we sometimes call it. 😉
We are still pondering what will be our basic route plan when we return to Africa. Will it be to the East or West? Would we need to get a Carnet de Passage from RSA…? Let’s see!🤔😎
Meanwhile, Stay Wild! 🤠
